Rio Ferdinand Criticizes Erik Ten Hag's Tactical Approach At Manchester United Following Draw Against Liverpool

Rio Ferdinand Slammed Erik Ten Hag’s Style of football at Manchester United after the draw against Liverpool FC.

Rio Ferdinand, a revered figure at Manchester United, has expressed strong disapproval of Erik ten Hag’s tactical philosophy at Old Trafford, particularly following the team’s recent draw against Liverpool. This marks the third consecutive match where the Red Devils have surrendered points, despite initially taking the lead.

Ferdinand did not mince words in his critique, labeling the style of football implemented by the Dutch manager as “kamikaze” and “chaotic.” During an episode of his Vibe with Five YouTube show, the former defender conveyed his frustration, questioning the clarity and effectiveness of ten Hag’s tactics.

“The manager came out before and was saying ‘if anyone can’t see the style of play then I don’t know what you’re looking at’ and basically ‘we have got a style of play’,” Ferdinand remarked. “For the life of me, I give him the benefit of the doubt every time and am looking at him thinking every time ‘what is it’?”

He went on to emphasize the lack of control and coherence in the team’s performance, likening it to “kamikaze” football devoid of strategic direction. Despite acknowledging the impact of injuries on the squad, Ferdinand expressed skepticism regarding ten Hag’s ability to instill a cohesive playing style.

In the recent clash against Liverpool, Manchester United found themselves trailing after Luis Diaz opened the scoring. However, Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo’s brilliant goals in the second half saw them claw back into contention. Nevertheless, a late penalty conceded by Aaron Wan-Bissaka allowed Mohamed Salah to secure a draw for Liverpool.

With Manchester United currently lagging behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by 11 points, the upcoming fixture against Bournemouth poses another stern test for ten Hag’s side in the Premier League on Saturday.
