He gestures for Edouard Mendy to come and clear the ball but the goalkeeper holds his ground.

Silva sprints into the box and positions himself between Gray and the goal. The Everton forward drills a shot towards the far bottom corner but the defender manages to deflect the effort wide of goal.
This is nice from Everton. McNeil runs past Koulibaly and Thiago Silva on his way into the box and attempts to square it into the middle of the box only for an interception to turn the ball out of play.
The corner is whipped into the middle and there’s a desperate scramble before Mendy manages to smother the ball.
The long period of additional time was necessary after Everton defender Ben Godfrey suffered what looked like a serious injury in a collision with Pickford and Kai Havertz early in the 10th minute.
